The Wedding Photographer Contract
The Wedding Photographer Contract is absolutely essential. Good communication is
necessary in order not to have problems. During a wedding’s preparations a bride and a groom are under
tremendous pressure. Lots of financially important decision making and often done in a rush.
We all know what happens when we do things in a rush... we forget. Under this amount of stress,
people can forget to have heard or agreed on things. That’s why it is essential to have a Wedding Photographer
Contract signed by the couple.
Another reason for having a wedding photographer contract, has been created by the modern legal
system. Nowadays everyone sues everyone for nothing and as a photographer you simply need to cover yourself.
The nicest and most unthinkable people can suddenly turn into devils when put in front of a legal money making
possibility.
If you are a wedding photographer you are probably trying to make a living out of wedding
photography and offering full refunds here and there is not going to work towards paying your bills. Not to mention
possible damages. Not having a wedding photographer contract means you are asking for it and it will happen; it’s
just a matter of time.
Obviously a contract must be tailored to each photographer’s needs. A wedding photographer
contract must include: the names of the people to be married, the total price of the package selected, the date of
the wedding and the date of the signatures... and of course it needs to be signed by both bride and groom, with the
same signatures they will use on the wedding register.
I remember a couple that initially signed the contract with phoney signatures. When at the
signing of the register I noticed the great differenced in both their signatures, I decided to make them sign the
contract again before handing them the photographs. They were looking for a legal loophole and it took three long
months of correspondence to finally have a contract with their proper signatures. They were very stuborn, but in
the end they realized they would have never seen their wedding pictures without signing another wedding
photographer contract.
